Will I move into the FPS 2015?

Under current rules, firefighters who joined the FPS 2006 may move into the Firefighters' Pension Scheme 2015 (FPS 2015), depending on their age and when they joined the scheme. Follow the options below to see how this affects you and what protections you may have.

In 2018, these protections were found to be unlawful by the Court of Appeal due to age discrimination and work is underway to remove this discrimination.

However, in the meantime, members may still be moved by their FRA from FPS 2006 to FPS 2015. All remaining members will move into FPS 2015 on 1 April 2022.

When were you born?

You are fully protected if you are a member of the FPS 2006 and were aged 50 or over on 1 April 2012

It means you will remain in your existing pension scheme and continue to earn rights in FPS 2006 until 2022.

Information for Protected members of FPS 2006

You are taper protected if you are or were a member of the FPS 2006 and were born between 2 April 1962 and 1 April 1966.

You will move into the FPS 2015 sometime before 31 March 2022. See table below for your personal tapering date.

At your taper date, you will move to the FPS 2015. Your existing FPS 2006 pension rights will not transfer with you, and they will remain fully protected in FPS 2006. If your taper protection date falls after you choose to retire, you will not move to the FPS 2015.
