If the total value of benefits payable to an FPS 1992 member's surviving husband, wife, civil partner and children (plus any benefits paid to the member if death is after retirement) is less than the contributions the member paid into the scheme, the difference will be paid to the firefighter's estate as a post retirement death grant.
