Am I affected?

From 1 April 2022 all members are building up pension benefits in the FPS 2015. For the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2022, members who are affected by the 2015 Remedy will be asked to make a choice between legacy scheme (FPS 1992/ FPS 2006 standard/ FPS 2006 special) benefits or new scheme (FPS 2015) benefits. That choice will be offered either at retirement, or as soon as possible after 1 October 2023 if you have already retired (or you are the beneficiary of a member who has died). Administrators have 18 months to give affected members their options.

If you were member of a public service pension scheme (or eligible to join the Firefighters' Pension Scheme) from 31 March 2012 through to 1 April 2015, you are likely to be affected by the 2015 Remedy.

If you’ve worked in one of these areas and have been part of the pension scheme provided by your employer, then it’s likely you’ve been a member of a public service pension scheme:

  • The Civil Service
  • The Judiciary
  • Local Government
  • Teachers
  • National Health Service
  • Fire and Rescue Service
  • Police Forces
  • Armed Forces

There is nothing you need to do right now and your pension scheme administrator will contact you with information about your remedy benefits in the 18 months from 1 October 2023. This means you will receive information by 1 April 2025 at the latest.

What happens next and when you need to make a decision will depend on your current status in the scheme:

You can visit the 2015 Remedy pages to find out more.
